Your beautiful porcelain creations are one of a kind as each student puts their own touch on each doll. Whether you make a 36" fashion lady or a 6" baby, modern artist doll or an antique Bru, you will take home a doll you made yourself!
From greenware on, each step is your own work. When she is done and your other class members and friends rave about her, you will feel the personal pride of creation and you will deserve the praise.
Sandy has made several dolls in my classes over the last 3 years. She has sold some of her work at doll shows and has many she just can't part with. Here are 2 of her special creations, both made from the same mold but with completely different looks.
Below is the information about classes. Just stop in at Carol's Doll House and pick out your first creation. You can do this too!
Dolls To Make
Shop Supplies
We supply space to work with good lighting, paper towels, rock hard, plaster of paris, cups for water etc., cotton balls, tooth picks, cotton swabs, alcohol, desolv-it, waxed paper, hair dryer, scissors, needles and thread, nylons, a box to store items in and a place to leave them, etc. If you can't be in class for awhile, please come and get your brushes, etc. as storage is a problem.
You Supply (all items below are in stock)
You will need to purchase cleaning tools, paint brushes and paint, eye wax (which can be used for several dolls). The average price of those items is $50.00. You will also need greenware, firings, a body kit or stringing kit, shoulder connector, eyes, wig, pate, clothes, and any other item that is required to assemble your doll. These items vary according to your doll.
Times
Classes meet on Tuesday evenings from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Thursday afternoon from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Classes are also held on Saturday morning from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. You may attend one or all of our classes each week, but I may not be able to fire your parts between classes especially if you come more than once a week.
Costs
Class time is $6.00 per class. High or first firing is 1/2 of the greenware cost and low or second firing is 1/4 of the cost of the greenware cost. If a part requires additional firings they are 1/8 of the greenware cost. Body kits include sewed cloth body, stuffing (fiber fill or pellets), wire (for head and limbs), bear joints and iron on tape etc., and other misc. items to assemble the doll. They cost $19.00 each. They do not include armatures, special neck connectors or any special items you may choose to put inside your doll.
General Information
Each doll normally requires four to five weeks to complete. Class sizes vary. If you break a part only that part would need to be reordered, not another whole doll. The average cost to complete a doll is around $150.00.
